The Benefits of the AES-IntelliNet Mesh Radio Network

MEsh Network

AES-IntelliNet is a private wireless mesh radio network used for Fire Alarm and Burglar system monitoring.  The radio network is made up of Subscriber units each acting as a receiver, transmitter, and repeater of signals. Each protected premise outfitted with an AES Subscriber unit is linked to the AES-IntelliNet network.  The network allows Subscriber units to use one of many other Subscriber units in the same network to relay the alarm message to the IP links which are connected to the central monitoring station. Signals follow the shortest route to all the available path options at that moment, ensuring the fastest and most reliable alarm communications possible.

The APi Group family of companies have partnered with AES and received licensed radio frequencies from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for operating our own radio networks. By having the Subscriber units pre-programmed to these frequencies, we can assure that only properly trained Technicians from American Fire Protection Group and our sister companies are adding Subscribers to our proprietary networks. This allows us to maintain a superior level of performance and dependability.

The benefits to AFPG’s customers of having their fire and life safety systems monitored using an AES Subscriber unit are many. Because all units are installed with a minimum of two paths of communication to the Central Station, most Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) will allow the AES Subscriber unit to be the sole means of monitoring communication.

This allows our customers to cancel their costly telephone lines and additional monitoring services, ultimately saving them money on the overall cost of monitoring their life safety systems.

Unlike cellular communication devices and telephone lines, there is no sunset for the radio mesh network technology. 2G cellular service sunset in 2016. 3G networks are being sunset as early as 2020 by some providers. As new, faster cellular technology is available, the aging and less utilized technology becomes too costly to maintain. Once discontinued, consumers are required to start the expensive process of upgrading their devices.

Like aging cellular technology, plain old telephone service (POTS) lines will be discontinued. The sunset of this technology begins as early as 2020 by Verizon and AT&T – two of the nation’s largest phone service providers. AES-Intellinet network uses the simple, yet time-tested technology of radio waves which will not sunset. Ever.

AES-Intellinet mesh radio networks are currently available to AFPG customers in the Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, College Station, and Albuquerque markets. We will be implementing this technology at the remaining AFPG locations in 2019 and 2020 to help provide our customers with the best possible products and services to monitor their fire and life safety systems.
